Taziar is probably going to hate this, but I'm afraid I've removed the HOLD flag from the baldric. A lot of them, but you can find MUDs in a variety of languages. Not an expert, but, the DIKU/Circle branch are generally in C, Evennia is in Python, CoffeeMUD is in Java. I don't know others off the top of my head.

Speaking personally I'm not at all a fan of 'rank 1 and 2 are probationary'-style arrangements. Either clan people, or don't - as someone mentioned earlier, declanning people is rarely an uncomplicated thing and often gets messy. I read the first 7 books in Modesitt's Imager series this week. If you like detailed world building they're for you, but Modesitt tends to be a bit like marmite.
