Re: Fail!

I would really like the channie class to evolve in similar ways to the trolloc zerk warrior bashing class - people who play the class should be the daredevils that want to have the power of doing lots of damage and don't care too much about the downside (dying a lot). Which, again, is why this log ...

Re: Fail!

I feel like a lost one on one is a weird situation to bring up how broken channelers may or may not be. If there are problems with channelers (and I think there are some, but way less now that port is neutered -- HP cap would be super helpful), that log is a pretty shitty example of it. That looked ...

Re: How can we bring more players to the quieter hours?

I think the % of people that afk in PK cities (FD/Keep/Falme) and wait for easy pk is the worst aspect of the game. honestly wouldn't mind all the no hides in keep removed at least so the AFK people would have to move to TKD or something or take some small risk. So yeah, going to disagree that stay...

Re: Oh Lore-d.

I assumed a few of the more generic ones were simply CircleMUD/DikuMUD leftovers. Mountain King being an example of that, Roland, Aylia, and the "bandit" or random "spectral" types possibly being others. They're not necessarily WoTish with WoTish backgrounds because they were never from WoT.

Re: New books thread!

I'll bite. Malazan is so bad. Couldn't get past two books and even that felt like a waste of time, though the second book was markedly better than the truly awful first book. That first book's writing is still memorable in how totally bad and confusing it was. I feel like the go-to excuse for that i...

He's not Weaver, I'm guessing he's either Aiyhlo or Syauri.

Re: New books thread!

Recently finished The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert, which is largely about climate change and that we're living through one of the largest extinction events in world history. One of the saddest and most disturbing books I've ever read. Read this last summer. Really well-written and researc...

Re: New books thread!

Currently reading Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Only 1/4 in, but it's a pretty fascinating novel already. Anyone who enjoys the concept of David Brin-esque uplifting or evolutionary what-ifs or far-flung science fiction where humanity is hanging on by a thread (ala Greg Benford), would pr...

Re: New books thread!

Just finished American War by Omar El Akkad -- first fiction novel by an Egyptian-Canadian journalist who covered Iraq/Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, the Arab Spring, Ferguson, etc. Deals with a second American Civil War. Very solid for a debut effort, but the fact that it's a first effort is pretty a...
