I do think this is very situational and just shows dice rolls more than anything, have seen enough bashes on great dodge with a finely axe. Also with a 18str hunter.

1v1s aren't all about sitting in a vacuum and why it can still go both ways is because there's dice rolls and mobs to even things out. Non rare combo is better than rare abs (barring heron long and the unique sword) in 1v1s it's not even close.

The fact that you're hitting abs -always- makes up for any small difference in dmg dice. Once it's low vs low you just hitflee or melee and dodge a bash.
