That's just what the mobol is like. It doesn't test for individual items because of size constraints, so it says "ooh nice" and then it turns out you gave him something he doesn't want and he goes "bah, trash".

I'm assuming he doesn't want what I gave him but it seems that there's a bit of an error here nonetheless...
An artifact collector puts a xxx in a backpack.
An artifact collector pulls a magnifying glass from his pocket.

An artifact collector gets a xxx from a backpack.

An artifact collector examines an item closely.

An artifact collector says 'Just what I was looking for, Quintilius!'

An artifact collector says 'What do I want with this?'
An artifact collector drops a xxx.
Would prefer not to have the item in question publicly announced but I can send a mail if it is necessary.
