Artifact Collectors will take DS badges for XP, however, merchant does not award QPs for them. Not a bug.

A well-traveled merchant says 'No, I won't trade for that today.'
A well-traveled merchant gives you a horned skull badge.
A well-traveled merchant gives you a lantern.
