Background
Born on a small farm just outside of Four Kings, Katene grew up had a happy life helping her parents farm the fields and tend the animals. This all quickly ended one evening when the Trollocs raided. When she emerged from her hiding spot everything was destroyed and both her parents were dead.
She had to grow up fast after that. Helping others where she could for food, relying on the kindness of others and stealing only what she needed to survive when all other options ran out.
As she got older, she started traveling farther away from Four Kings. In search of food, shelter, and anything that would take her away from the life she had been dealt.
When she turn around 16 years of age, she discovered, quite by accident and likely fueled by malnutrition, that she could create her own food and water, just by focusing on what she wanted. This emboldened her to journey out even further, all the way to Caemlyn.
While in Caemlyn, talking with some strangers around the town square, she noticed one them start to glow. She asked how the one woman made herself glow. The women, a bit surprised, explained that she was channeling. They talked briefly and after confirming that Katene could actually channel herself, the women, Accepted Maddy Mantear and Accepted Vala Galanis, talked with her about the White Tower and invited her to come to Tar Valon to possibly join the White Tower.
Katene was enrolled in the Book of Novices in the year NE1579.
