The World Is Not A Basket of Kittens

by Chloro » Wed Jan 22, 2025 11:51 pm

Chloro Sedai summons two Tower Accepted's to discuss their progress, ambitions, and to gain their reaction if life does not turn out that way they had planned.

View of: Chloro
Participants: Chloro, Arelis, Maddy

Meeting Room of the Gray Ajah
Large, leaded glass windows surround the room on all sides, save the
southern where a large doorway leads out into a antechamber. The room
itself is dominated by a large wooden table around which sits at least
fifty matching chairs, something close to a record for the White Tower. In
the middle of the table are an assortment of unused parchments, quill pens
and stoppered ink jars. A small stand off to one side of the room holds a
large number of glass cups and a large pitcher of chilled water. An
inscription in fine lettering is etched upon the windows.
[ obvious exits: E ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door east: door
A large round table built from black oak dominates the center of the room.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Gray Sister walks here, considering her options.
Annoura Larisen is here, weighing your words.

Arelis has arrived from the east.

Arelis curtseys before Chloro.

Arelis says 'Good day Chloro Sedai'

Maddy has arrived from the east.

Maddy curtseys gracefully.

Arelis says 'Do you have a few minutes. I seek some guidance'

Arelis beams a smile at Maddy.

Maddy says 'Hello Chloro Sedai, Arelis'

Maddy nods in agreement.

Arelis says 'Hello, Maddy'

Maddy smiles happily.

Chloro looks up from a stack of reports sitting in her lap as she relaxes on the gilded sofa near the kindling fireplace. "Ah yes, the apprentice, and the one who rode to save Andor. Come girls close the door and have a seat by the fire."

Arelis closes the carveddoor.

Arelis says 'Thank you Aes Sedai'

Arelis takes a seat by the fire

Maddy walks to the fire and takes a seat on the footstool, turning to face Chloro Sedai, her back to the fire.

Chloro says 'Now, what have you two been up to. Arelis I have not seen you in several months.'

Maddy looks at Arelis with a smile, waiting for her to respond to Chloro Sedai.

Arelis says 'I have been working with Sheriam Sedai a lot the past few months. She has me running endless errands and practicing nonstop'

Arelis says 'I am exhausted to say the least.'

Arelis says 'but well worth it as I have seen tremendous improvements'

Maddy nods at Arelis.

Arelis says 'Sheriam Sedai is one tough woman and runs a very tight operation.'

Arelis giggles.

Chloro lifts the stack and places it next to her on the sofa further away from the fire. A crystal tumbler of single malt sitting on the marble end table." Ah yes, my sister can be a hard task master, especially since she knows exactly how far initiates can be pushed."

Arelis shivers uncomfortably.

Arelis nods at Chloro.

Chloro says 'Maddy?'

Maddy says 'Well as you know, I have been researching Treaties, Laws and such to hand in to Rebeka Sedai.'

Arelis looks at Maddy with a proud smile on her face.

Maddy says 'I have also been spending quite a bit of time in Mayene, trying to pull information for my class. They don't seem to want to sit for interviews. They want to drink, fight and generally play with the barmaids.'

Maddy says 'Its seems that project needs to take precedence, the Du Lis' are grumbling again.'

Arelis mutters underneath her breath:"Savages"

Arelis composes herself and continues to pay attention to Maddy.

Maddy says 'I hope to meet with Rebeka Sedai in the next few days to discuss a strategy.'

Chloro reachs to her left, lifting the tumbler off the table and taking sip, before setting it down on her thigh, left hand gently wrapped around it. The tumbler sparkled with the flickering of the fireplace against her royal blue robe with splashes of cream. "Child, you have trained with us for some time now in the tower."

Maddy nods at Chloro.

Chloro says 'Have you considered their tongues might wag more if their minds are slightly distracted? I think some training with my Blue sisters is what you may need.'

Maddy says 'Yes I am no drinker of spirits, so no hope in meeting them on their own playing field.'

Arelis looks at Chloro Sedai eyes wide open as she realizes her genius in that sentence: "Men do divulge more when under the influence of wine."

Maddy shifts slighlty, moving a bit further from the fire.

Chloro looks to the tumbler in her lap, the brown liquid still. "Who is to say this is not cold tea, or if it is whiskey based on its appearance. Arelis, your thoughts?"

Maddy smiles at Chloro.

Arelis says 'Men are all Savages by the way. But, as you stated, under the influence of wine they will be able to provide more information and also abide or be more receptive to your political propositions, etc.'

Arelis says 'a great tactic to have under your sleeve.'

Arelis says 'oh, and I believe it is tea, with a hint of whiskey.'

Maddy frowns. ' Could they actually sign something under the influence, and would we hold them to it?'

Arelis smiles at Chloro.

Chloro looks to Arelis, a light coming to her gray eyes as gears begin to turn. This was a development she had not anticipated. Though it would work beautifully in her plans. "I see you have narrowed your choice of Ajah to train with Arelis."

Arelis says 'I have Chloro Sedai.'

Arelis says 'Chloro Sedai, I just wanted to seek guidance and tutelage as I am interested in joining the Blue Ajah house.'

Chloro looks to Maddy, meeting the Accepted directly in the eyes. "Nations have been shaped by one politician or Monarch getting the better of the other and holding them to it. The World is not a basket of kittens child."

Maddy smiles widely at Arelis, grabbing her hand and giving it a firm squeeze, 'I am happy for you Arelis.'

Maddy nods at you.

Arelis embraces Maddy and says: "Thank You Maddy."

Arelis nods at you.

Chloro looks to Maddy then to Arelis. "It seems you two have chosen to train with Ajahs that are very similar. The only difference is one does their work in the public eye, and one behind it."

Chloro says 'Both equally effective at shaping the narrative towards advantage for the light.'

Arelis nods at Chloro.

Chloro says 'I would like you both to compare notes of your apprenticeships and see where you can improve your skills.'

Maddy says 'That sounds like an excellent idea.'

Maddy beams a smile at Arelis.

Arelis says 'Understood Aes Sedai.'

Maddy fans her flushed face with her hand, moving to the edge of the footstool, a bit further from the fire.

Chloro takes another sip from her tumbler. "That is not to say you should ignore your training with other Ajahs. The Gray and blue lead dangerous lives. The skills other Ajahs teach you may one day save your life regardless of if you attain the shawl or not."

Arelis says 'Chloro Sedai may I ask a question when you get a chance?

Chloro says 'You may child.'

Arelis nods at Chloro.

Chloro looks to Maddy. "You have begun practicing the exercise to ignore the elements. I suggest you practice now."

Maddy nods at Chloro.

Arelis says 'I have learned that The Blue House is keen on involving themselves in righteous causes and Justice. As you stated this resonates with the Gray House. So, I assume that through these causes and in the name of Justice, political schemes or advantages can be set forth to benefit the Tower as a whole. Is that correct for me to assume as such?'

Chloro raises her hand. "First child they are called Ajahs, not houses. All members are Aes Sedai, an Ajah is a faction that dedicates itself to a certain method of practice. Best you learn that before you approach my sisters."

Arelis nods at you.

Arelis says 'my apologies. Thank you for the correction, Aes Sedai.'

Chloro says 'Both Ajahs hunt dark friends, and both are needed. The Grays look for them among the figures most high while the blue hunts cities, villages, or hamlets. '

Maddy brows slighty furrow, her calm demeanor masking her concentration as she meditates. Moving back to the middle of the footstool she straightens her back and looks back to the women with a smile.

Chloro says 'As an example. Should a Blue need to question servants in a noble house a Gray Sister may take it upon herself to distract the noble family while the Blue sister questions the entire household, none the wiser until the Aes Sedai wish it to be.'

Arelis leans slightly forward on her chair, eyes firmly set on Chloro Sedai as she speaks.

Chloro says 'I have worked in tandem with Kitiara Sedai before, with the Queen of Andor no less, investigating the possible breakage of the three oaths. '

Chloro says 'All Aes Sedai are sisters. It is merely which sister may have the best effect being public at that time.'

Arelis says 'Sounds like a great combination when both Ajahs work together to achieve a goal. I'm sure the Andorians did not know what hit them.'

Chloro says 'It is often why Aes Sedai travel together. Not only for the ability to heal, but the ability to handle what is needed.'

Maddy brushes her hair from her face, looking thoughtful as she digests Chloro Sedai's words.

Arelis nods at you.

Chloro says 'Now Arelis, the same question I pose to anyone declaring for apprenticeship. Why the Blue Ajah?'

Arelis sits up straight and looks at Chloro Sedai before answering.

Maddy crooks her head slightly, watching Arelis with a small smile and nod of encouragement.

Arelis says 'Although some may see my actions and think that I would make a good Red Ajah or Green Ajah or that at least I give those affinities, I pride myself in righteousness and Justice. I love to take on a meaningful cause. I love to help others and protect them, being from the Hoard or evil men around them.'

Arelis says 'This is why I believe the Blue Ajah is more of an alignment'

Maddy nods at Arelis.

Arelis spoke with passion as she expressed her feelings to Chloro Sedai.

Chloro thinks a moment putting her tumbler down on the end table. "Would this still be the case if you were ordered to stay in the Tower, if you should attain the shawl? We are a sisterhood, so this is a possibility."

Arelis says 'I am not one to be selfish in my owns desire or beliefs. I always consider my actions and those around me who have become my family. '

Arelis says 'I would do what is best for the Tower and my sisters at that time should I be fortunate enough to one day wear the Blue Shawl.'

Chloro looks Arelis in the eyes, her own gray eyes giving no emotion. "That is very pretty child, but it does not answer my question. You are dealing with a Gray, I suggest you consider your answer carefully."

Maddy looks directly at Arelis, giving her a broad grin.

Arelis rearranges herself on her chair and prepares to give another answer to Chloro Sedai

Arelis says 'I would stay in the Tower if I were ordered to Aes Sedai and fulfill my duties as part of the sisterhood'

Chloro says 'Would this be a happy life for you? Would you be content to do this for 300 years or more?'

Arelis says 'I would not be completely honest with you if I won’t say that I would find ways to try and fulfill a cause but all done politically and in accordance to the Sister-hood. Let me give you an example'

Chloro motions for the the Accepted to continue.

Arelis says 'I would try and accompany one of my sister in a political endeavor.'

Arelis says 'I would look for ways but in the end, why would I go against my Sisters for my personal gains?'

Arelis says 'or personal selfishness?'

Arelis says 'That is not in my nature Aes Sedai.'

Maddy glances around at the Gray Sisters in the room with them, considering the fact that they may have been ordered to stay within the Tower.

Arelis shoulders drops slightly as she relaxes on her chair.

Chloro smiles warmly, the Accepted had seen through the word trap. Perhaps her Blue sisters would be able to use such talents. "Enough child, I can read between your words. Now I think I have taken enough time from both of you. Except for one thing. Maddy, the lesson I gave you, what is your progress in this?

Arelis nods at Chloro.

Maddy says 'I have been doing it whilst focused on my other projects but have not given it my full attention as of yet. I have also the project from Tolza Sedai the back burner, waiting for Elder Frey to respond.'

Arelis pays attention to Maddy as she responds.

Maddy looks at Chloro, tilting her head,

Maddy says 'Can you give me your perspective, on which order of importance I should give to my many projects.'

Maddy says 'I will of course be meeting with Rebeka Sedai on this matter as well.'

Chloro nods while the wheels in her mind turn. "Continue with this lesson, and I would like you to teach the same to Arelis. You may add it to the archive (post log) or send it to me personally. For now, you are both released. If I told you the order it would not be a lesson now would it. However, your fellow Accepted are a sounding board for you to use. I suggest you take advantage of that."

Maddy nods at Chloro.

Arelis thanks you heartily.

Chloro says 'You are both dismissed for now, however my door is always open should either of you seek guidance or lesson. Though at this point I think Maddy is a bit high on lessons and a little short on time.'

Chloro chuckles politely.

Arelis says 'I thank you for taking the time to meet Chloro Sedai.'

Arelis nods at Chloro.

Chloro says 'Light illumine you both. '

Maddy curtseys to each Aes Sedai in the room, giving each a bright smile before moving to the door.

Arelis says 'and you Aes Sedai'

Arelis smiles happily.

Arelis beams a smile at Maddy.

Maddy says 'Yes once again, Thank you Chloro Sedai.'
