In the Classroom
A board of black slate hangs on the wall near the door, suggesting this
room is used as a classroom. The room is plain and windowless and has
enough place to seat thirty students. A dais with a desk sits at the front
of the room, where the Aes Sedai or Accepted teaching the class can sit.

Door west: door
Trajega the Fledgling Novice is standing here.
Lady Callesa the Honored Sister is standing here.
A large man eyes the surroundings warily, every movement fluid.
A woman with an ageless face stands here.
A haughty young woman strides by practicing Aes Sedai serenity.
Callesa says 'I thought it would be nice to review some of the basics about
the One Power.'
Tissaya says 'Thank you, Callesa Sedai!'
Trajega says 'thank you Callesa Sedai, In a few minutes I may get called
away for some dishes I broke. I have some pennance to do.'
Trajega nods at Callesa.
Tissaya says 'I did the same thing last week!

'
Callesa says 'The One Power is the force that turns the Wheel, the forceof
creation.'
Callesa says 'Not everyone can touch it.'
Tissaya sits quietly tentatively listening.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya sits quietly tentatively listening.
Trajega eats a strange fruit.
Tissaya raises her hand.
Callesa says 'Most people cannot, some can learn to draw from it, some have
no choice and the One Power will flow through them whether they want to
learn or not.'
Tissaya emote: Tissaya raises her hand.
Callesa says 'Yes, Tissaya?'
way?
Tissaya says 'Why if it is one power, do men and women not embrace it in the
same way?'
Callesa says 'A very good question!'
Trajega Gets suprised at the existance of such an individual.
Callesa says 'It is One Power, but it consists of two halves. Saidar and
Saidin.'
Callesa says 'We touch Saidar, men touch Saidin.'
Tissaya raises her hand again.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya raises her hand again.
Callesa says 'Long ago, in the Age of Legends, both halves were safe to
use, with the reasonable precautions of course.'
Callesa says 'Yes, Tissaya?'
Tissaya says 'but if it has two parts does it meet in the middle? How is it
one?'
Callesa says 'Each half is different, but they complement each other. The
greatest wonders were created, when both Saidar and Saidin were used. Which
beautifully proved that they are indeed One Power, not two.'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
prove it is one source and not two?
Tissaya says 'So the evidence of them being worked together to make great things
prove it is one source and not two?'
Callesa says 'But Saidin is tainted, it was the price for not losing the
world to the Dark One completely. '
Callesa says 'It is one of the proofs. Both men and women can use many of
the same Weaves, and many of the principles are the same, such as division
in five Elements, the dangers such as burning out.'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'There are even very old notions of men and women being linked
in the same circle, to be more powerful together.'
Callesa says 'Nevertheless, such an idea is impossible today, and most
Sisters would find it profoundly disgusting. I would settle for
unreasonably dangerous, as anything else to do with male channelers.'
Callesa says 'As I was saying, some of us learn to embrace, some of us have
no choice, those are often called Wilders, sometimes pejoratively.'
Tissaya raises her hand a third time.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya raises her hand a third time.
Callesa says 'It is reasonable to suppose men have the same distinction,
just nobody is teaching those with a choice. Those with a Spark that
manifests itself are the job of the Red Ajah'
Callesa says 'Yes, Tissaya?'
things.
Tissaya says 'Are the WIlders of concern or
can they be trusted? I have heard mixed things.'
Callesa nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'I understand what you may have heard.'
Callesa says 'I am a Wilder myself. I found my way to Tar Valon and got the
necessary training. Whether I can be trusted, that is not dependent on me
having been a Wilder.'
Callesa says 'But the mistrust is of course rather common. Wilders often
fear themselves, and as the result create a block, that is a challenge to
overcome, when they finally wear the white.'
Callesa says 'And if they survive their first contact with Saidar.'
Callesa frowns.
Or do you still bear it?
Tissaya says 'Is being a wilder something that is cast off after passing the
tests? Or do you still bear it?'
Callesa smiles at Tissaya.
Callesa says 'Nobody ever remembers it these days. I have passed more than
a few tests. But this may be individual.'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
fight the dark it seems pointless to make enemies of them?
Tissaya says 'I imagine even wilders pass their own tests in life. As long as
they fight the dark it seems pointless to make enemies of them?'
Callesa arches an eyebrow.
Trajega disappears into the void.
Trajega has returned.
Trajega drinks water from a leather water flask.
Callesa says 'That is a good question for a very long discussion not really
belonging to today's class. You may hear many opinions.'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Trajega raises her hand.
Callesa says 'Yes, Trajega?'
Trajega says 'those who can't touch the one force are unable to see the
weaves we use. Are we just as unable to see it if a male channels?'
Callesa nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'Yes, precisely. We can see the effects, just like a non
channeler does. But that is all.'
Callesa says 'There are a few ter'angreal in existence, that may alert a
person to a channeler of the opposite sex, but they are not common. '
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'But both women and male can draw from the Source in five
different manners, use it as five elements'
Callesa says 'Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Spirit.'
Callesa says 'Most channelers tend to be the strongest at one, perhaps two,
less strong in others.'
Callesa says 'Sometimes you can make up for lack of strength by your
ability, sometimes not.'
Callesa says 'Men tend to be stronger in Fire and Earth, women in Water and
Air.'
Callesa says 'Spirit is evenly probable to be the strength of a man or a
woman.'
Tissaya says 'I have noticed that women who travel north tend to use more fire?'
Callesa says 'There is one more unique characteristic of Spirit'
Callesa nods at Tissaya.
Callesa says 'Yes, either they are naturally strong in Fire, in spite of it
being less probable, or they are overall very strong, or they make up for
it in skill.'
Callesa says 'Can you guess what is the other uniqueness of Spirit?'
Callesa smiles slightly
Tissaya says 'It seems to play into healing?'
Callesa says 'It is not the only one.'
Trajega says 'the force of creation?'
Callesa says 'Spirit is the only element people can channel in sleep. '
Callesa says 'It can lead to funny or less funny accidents.'
Tissaya says 'I have heard there is a dream world where you need to train your
will rather than channeling?'
Callesa says 'Apart from the Elements, there are also other Talents. Some
not that rare, such as Healing, some very rare, such as Foretelling.'
Callesa smiles at Tissaya.
Callesa says 'I see you've been reading a lot, that is a good thing. Yes,
Dreamwalking is a rather specific skill or Talent.'
Tissaya says 'Is it something we can learn in the Tower?'
Callesa says 'I am not a Dreamwalker, so I cannot tell you much more, but
some Brown sisters have studied it.'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'If you reach the Shawl, and few novices do, you can study
anything in accordance with the Oaths, with very few forbidden weaves or
study areas.'
Tissaya says 'sorry to veer the lecture off course Sedai...I have a tendency to
do that'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'Curiosity is a gift for a student of the White Tower.'
Callesa smiles at Tissaya.
Callesa says 'Before we go to something practical, there is one more thing'
Callesa says 'I usually give a whole class on the Dangers of Using the One
Power.'
Callesa says 'But now just a mention: it can kill you, you can burn out,
you can harm others, if you are not carefull. Always THINK.'
Callesa says 'Now to something practical.'
Callesa says 'Do you know which Elements are you naturally gifted in?'
Tissaya says 'I know which I have trained, but I do not know if I have a
stronger predisposition. I know I love changing the weather and calling
down lightning.'
Callesa nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'And Trajega?'
Trajega says 'I find fire air and wind to be easier to use.'
Callesa nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'I have an exercise on two of them prepared. We will start
with Air'
Callesa drops a large melon.
Tissaya senses Callesa connecting to the True Source.
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Callesa channels a thread of Air, weaves it around the melon
Callesa channels further Air into a net around the fruit and lifts the
heavy melon two feet above the ground
Callesa slowly poses the melon back on the ground, without any harm and
releases Saidar.
Tissaya smiles happily.
Callesa says 'Who wants to try first?'
Callesa says 'The important part is control.'
Tissaya raises her hand.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya raises her hand.
Callesa nods in agreement.
Tissaya feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.
Callesa says 'Yes, Tissaya, try.'
Callesa says 'Remember, the weave is very simple, but control is
everything. Do not harm the melon.'
Callesa smiles at Tissaya.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya starts channeling air, aiming underneath the melon, at
first a slow gust forms.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya doesn't see any movement occuring so she channels more
forcefully.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya a large gust of wind forms and the melon pushes off
towards the wall...smush!
Tissaya frowns.
Callesa says 'Not bad for the first try.'
Callesa takes a second melon out of her backpack and puts it on the ground
Callesa says 'Trajega, give it a try while Tissaya rests'
Trajega gets up from her desk and walks toward the melon.
Trajega grins evilly.
Trajega starts to channel several threads of air, and slowly moves them
toward the melon. Bites down showing an angry face after getting halfway
around the melon.
Trajega takes a deep breath, and quickly moves the threads. The melon
briskly rolls around on the floor over and over.
Callesa quickly channels Air and stops the melon from hitting the wall like
his precedecor
Trajega sighs loudly.
Callesa says 'A good attempt too'
Trajega frowns at her failure.
Callesa says 'You see, there is a lot of practice involved in mastering
even the simplest weaves.'
Callesa says 'Yet, some channelers will struggle more with making the melon
move a bit, those are naturally weaker at Air probably. Some will struggle
not to destroy it.'
Callesa says 'Lets try a completely different Element!'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Trajega drinks water from a leather water flask.
Callesa puts the melon in the middle of the classroom again.
Callesa channels a single thin Flamestrike, burning a horizontal line on
the melon right in the middle of its height.
Callesa says 'Your turn, ladies. Draw on the melon's skin, don't burn it
completely.'
Tissaya says 'After you, Trajega! I got to go first last time?

'
Trajega nods in agreement.
Callesa says 'Years ago, one novice turned a similar exercise with roasting
an apple into a hole in the ceiling.'
Callesa says 'I hope I won't have to ask the Ogieri for repairs again
today.'
Callesa smiles happily.
Trajega pulls on weaves of fire, and they lick the air toward the melon.
Trajega after starting a smiley face, the left side of the mouth starts to
smoke.
Callesa watches the novice carefully.
Tissaya backs away towards the wall.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya backs away towards the wall.
Trajega sighs again as juices start to drool out of the mouth.
Callesa claps her hands.
Callesa says 'Very good.'
Trajega smiles lightly. at least we still have a melon?
Tissaya approaches again now that it looks safe.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya approaches again now that it looks safe.
Trajega thanks Callesa heartily.
Callesa says 'If it wasn't too early to tell based on just one exercise,
I'd say you might be more gifted at Fire than Air. But both Elements are
wonderful in skilled hands.'
Callesa looks in her empty backpack
Callesa thinks hard.
Tissaya says 'I am not too practiced in fire but I have an idea that might count
towards the exercise.'
Callesa goes to cabinet and opens it
Callesa searches inside and takes out an apple.
Callesa says 'I guess you'll have a smaller target, Tissaya'
Callesa ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Callesa replaces the melon by the apple
Trajega eats a strange fruit.
Callesa says 'Go for it, Tissaya.'
Tissaya emote: Tissaya oddly approaches the apple with her dagger.
Callesa arches an eyebrow.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya carves a smiley face on it and hollows it out some.
Tissaya feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.
[channel 'light ball']
Tissaya begins to weave the appropriate flows...

The room becomes brighter as you create a sphere of light above your hand.
Trajega cheers Tissaya on loudly.
Tissaya emote: Tissaya shifts the light ball over inside of the apple.
Callesa says 'An apple lantern. Quite ingenious, but not the point of this
exercise.'
Tissaya says 'Tada!!!'
Tissaya nods in agreement.
Callesa laughs quietly
Callesa says 'I guess you both could do with a lot more practice.'
Trajega says 'points for using her strengths and modifying the route to the
goal?'
Tissaya emote: Tissaya channels her fire towards the apple browning it
slightly.
Callesa says 'Sometimes you need to modify the route, sometimes you need to
stick to the given one.'
Callesa nods at Tissaya.
Callesa says 'But good job, both of you.'
Callesa says 'That concludes the lesson'
The Accepted says 'Before you are dismissed, I will take roll for Callesa
Sedai.'
The Accepted says 'To receive credit for the course, SAY MAY I BE DISMISSED
Callesa SEDAI?'
The Accepted says 'If I nod at you, that means you are dismissed and may
leave.'
Tissaya says 'Thank you, Sedai!'
Trajega says 'may i be dismissed Callesa Sedai?'
A haughty Accepted nods at Trajega.
Callesa looks at Tissaya.
Tissaya says 'May I be dismissed Callesa Sedai?'
Trajega curtseys before Callesa.
A haughty Accepted nods at Tissaya.
Trajega says 'Thank you Callesa Sedai'
Callesa says 'class dismissed'
Trajega opens the door.
A haughty Accepted says ''Thank you, Aes Sedai. I will forward these class
notes to Sheriam Sedai.''
Trajega leaves west.
Tissaya says 'Thank you again Sedai!'
