Summary: The young scoundrel, read novice, Nori requested an interview of Aelrena for being raised to Accepted. Aelrena summons her and they speak on the role, as well as Nori's interests.
Study of the Brown Ajah
Tall, arched windows in the northern wall open to a balcony, providing a
choice view of the Erinin as it flows south from the Borderlands. Half the
seating in the room is drawn up around the windows, showing that the
occupants appreciate the panorama. The remaining seats are drawn up in
circles of six to eight, allowing Brown Sisters to discuss the furtherance
of knowledge, or new theories in an informal atmosphere. Colorful wall
hangings depicting still lifes decorate the pale white walls.
Aelrena says 'Danelle, summon Nori please.'
Danelle Sedai says 'I will send my scribe to summon her, Aelrena.'
Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.
Aelrena gestures with her hand.
The doors smoothly swing open.
Aelrena glances at the door and calls, 'You may enter.'
Nori calls for the carveddoor to be opened.
Aelrena gestures with her hand.
The door smoothly swings open.
Nori has arrived from the south.
Nori curtseys gracefully.
Nori says 'Aelrena Sedai, it is I Wearied Novice Nori.'
Nori says 'I heard you sent missive for me from the scribe.'
Aelrena emote: Aelrena sits in one of the armchairs, her face weary as she gazes out the window, though she spares a glance for you as you enter.
Nori peers around the room out of the corner of her eye.
Aelrena says 'Ah yes, I did Nori.'
Aelrena turns her full attention to Nori, a small frown upon her face.
Nori flushes under the gaze of the sedai.
Aelrena says 'I hear that you've been asking after an Aes Sedai to interview you for being ranked to Accepted?'
Nori says 'yes, Aelrena Sedai. That is true.'
Aelrena arches one eyebrow upward.
Aelrena nods in agreement.
Aelrena says 'Have you spoken with any of the current Accepted on what it means to be Accepted?'
Nori says 'I have briefly. It's a matter of maturity, Aelrena Sedai. Taking care of those that come
after you like the novice I am today.'
Nori says 'more responsibility, but also more time spent in the presence of Aes Sedai learning to
refine my studies, my perspective, a little bit of everything really.'
Nori nods curtly, sure of herself.
Aelrena steeples her fingers, listening quietly to the novice speak even as her umber gaze weighs the girl.
Aelrena nods in agreement.
Nori says 'admittedly, when I came to the White Tower I was still a young girl inside, but the
principals of the White Tower, Chores, and dedication to becoming an accepted, and one day an Aes Sedai myself have grown into me.'
Aelrena 's eyebrows rise ever so slightly.
Nori says 'I feel better equipped to handle increased responsibility as a result. I can do what I
reliable.'
Nori peers up at you through young, but inquisitive eyes.
Aelrena nods along, though she cocks her head to the side after a moment.
Aelrena says 'And what makes you think that you are ready, child?'
Aelrena says 'You've said that you feel equipped, but what have you done that makes you feel as if you can handle the responsibility and maintain the decorum that is expected of an Accepted?'
Nori says 'I have completed all of my assigned merits, I mentor other girls new to the White Tower, and I am a good example of what a responsible wearied novice should be, to the point that I believe I deserve an opportunity to test in the arches.'
A calm woman has arrived from the south.
Aelrena nods in agreement.
A calm woman leaves south. vv
Nori says 'although, confined to the island limits my ability to go into the world, Tar Valon is
quite large and attracts others to the city. I take every opportunity to converse and learn from
those that visit the Shining Walls and learn from them, and also exemplify what makes the Tower so great.'
Nori says 'I have met many and in all my studies about diplomacy, many great agreements start as casual friendships and fellowship with others.'
Nori straightens her dress nervously.
Aelrena nods quietly, though her gaze moves from the novice back to the window.
Aelrena says 'Is that something you've found interesting then? Studies on diplomacy and the different nations of the world?'
Nori says 'there are several subjects that pull at me at this time. Diplomacy is one of them, then
there is the love of Research.'
Nori says 'I do enjoy reading, perhaps the most out of all my studies. Long after the classrooms are empty, I find myself consumed in books as of late.'
Aelrena feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.
Aelrena glances up to the door, before waving her hand absently..
The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.
Nori says 'I make time for books. I feel as if there is never enough time and I shall never be able
to read them all.'
Nori gulps nervously.
Nori raises her eyebrows slightly as she stares at the ground.
Nori says 'then.. well.'
Nori says 'there is something I am quite fascinated by..'
Nori says 'almost as much as books.'
Aelrena says 'I suppose that is the truth, there are many books, though not all of them are proper for young initiates to be reading.'
Aelrena arches an eyebrow.
Nori says 'Male channelers.'
Aelrena arches an eyebrow.
Nori says 'I've read so much about them lately. Where they come from, what they're capable of,
characteristics of those who can channel.'
Nori says 'I have been quietly working up the nerve to approach Sarinda Sedai about these books, my readings.'
Nori says 'I believe I am to be a Red one day, if she'll have me.'
Aelrena returns her eyes to the novice, her lips pursing slightly as she listens.
Nori says 'I have much to decide.
Aelrena says 'Have you considered that topic from other avenues of thought?'
Aelrena arches an eyebrow.
Nori says 'male channelers?'
Aelrena says 'It is not solely the reds that are interested in male channelers child.'
Nori says 'I read that not even the White Tower fully understands what they are capable of. Weaves we are still collecting information on, still witnessing in the wild.'
Nori says 'That means, there would be an opportunity to not only read more books, but perhaps write our own.'
Aelrena says 'While the Red Ajah is charged with bringing them to task, and ensuring that they cannot harm the world at large, some of the other Ajahs can have as much interest in them, but in different capacities'
Aelrena nods at her.
Nori looks up at you, clearly excitement in her eyes.
Aelrena smiles slightly, her lips turning up at the corners though the expression doesn't touch her eyes.
Nori says 'Admittedly, I think I would help. I would like to see one in person one day, but I'd
prefer to watch and study it than to accost it outright.'
Nori says 'perhaps the path of knowledge would serve me better as a Brown.'
Aelrena says 'It is the duty of all Aes Sedai to help guard the world against another breaking child, even I would aid one such as Sarinda Sedai in accosting a male channeler.'
Aelrena says 'That does not mean however, that there are no opportunities for study.'
Aelrena says 'What other Ajah might have interest in male channelers?'
Nori says 'You could argue the White Ajah perhaps, as to why they do the things they do.'
Aelrena says 'You would try to apply logic to the depths of madness?'
Nori says 'Philosophy is a deep subject, and admittedly I'm not sure if it's my best.'
Nori says 'Everything has a beginning and an end.'
Aelrena 's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.
Aelrena says 'I would argue there are neither endings nor beginnings to a wheel.'
Nori says 'Perhaps the Blue Ajah then, as such men will eventually be brought to justice.'
Aelrena nods in agreement.
Aelrena says 'The Blue is a good choice, I myself was also thinking of the Yellow.'
Aelrena says 'There's never been a way to heal madness, but the Yellows believe anything short of death can be healed.'
Nori says 'I have heard that saying before in my studies.'
Nori says 'I believe those like Ashlynn Sedai and other great healers would most certainly agree.'
Aelrena says 'Study and research never ends, Nori. Even when we feel that everything there is has been found, there's always another layer to discover. '
Aelrena nods in agreement.
Aelrena says 'I am satisfied, I suppose. Though I would ask you one last question.'
Nori blinks innocently, preparing herself.
Aelrena locks eyes with the young novice, her umber gaze hiding her thoughts, "What would you consider your strongest area, and what would you consider to be your weakest, what do you feel that you need to improve upon?"
Nori says 'I feel confident in combat. We have started to learn offensive weaves and I seem to excel in this area. I am confident, fast, and precise in timing. That is my strongest.'
Nori says 'my weakest area..'
Aelrena nods along, her stare unwavering upon the girl.
Nori says 'I would say although I have been pouring over books, I am still young and novice in more than just a title when it comes to the depth of learning. I have much to learn and discover through books. Although I am considered well read in some of my classes, I know better than to feel overly confident.'
Nori says 'my biggest weakness, is that I have not had more time to study more, try as I might. This comes with age, dedication, and never quenching the thirst for more.'
Nori says 'I wish to improve upon my maturity.'
Aelrena nods at her.
Nori says 'I was a young girl when I arrived her, and albeit playful and care free, the White Tower has demands that I must keep pace with and continue to meet.'
Aelrena says 'It is good that you recognize such, I've heard some reports of your mischief during your time in the Tower.'
Aelrena imbues the words with a sense of disapproval, though her face remains tranquil.
Nori says 'I am actively taking steps to focus on my studies and my future, and leave the young girl behind.'
Aelrena nods in agreement.
Nori says 'where I am going, and what the Shawl demands, it can only be one way.'
Nori nods at you, a more focused and serious look spread across her gaze.
Aelrena says 'The shawl is a heavy weight, and not one that a girl could bear.'
Aelrena says 'And that is also part of what it means to be Accepted, growing up.'
Aelrena nods at her.
Nori softens her gaze, a tiny smile creeping in.
Nori says 'it's been a journey, and there's still more left to be seen.'
Aelrena says 'I am satisfied with your answers, Novice Nori. I will put your name forward with my sisters to consider for the arches.'
Nori says 'thank you Aelrena Sedai.'
Aelrena says 'I hope you understand the gravity of such, and that you will not disappoint my trust in your commitment to growing.'
Aelrena nods at her.
Nori says 'I do, and I will make you proud.'
Aelrena smiles once again, this time spreading across her features like the first ray of sunlight at
dawn.
Aelrena says 'Was there anything else I could do for you while you're here?'
Nori shakes her head.
Nori says 'no Aes Sedai.'
Aelrena nods in agreement.
Aelrena gestures with her hand.
The door smoothly swings open.
Aelrena says 'You are dismissed.'
Nori says 'thank you for everything, Aes Sedai.'
Aelrena nods at her.
Nori hurries out the carveddoors, straightening her dress.
Nori leaves south. vv
Aelrena murmurs quietly, her hands folding in her lap as looks down to her bag thoughtfully, 'Don't thank me until you wear the banded dress.'
