An elaborately sculpted marble fountain splashes merrily.

Penzei Perets, Tower Accepted, Yellow Ajah Apprentice is standing here, riding a warhorse.
The Tar Valon town crier stands here, spreading the news.

Penzei smiles happily.

Penzei says 'Greetings Novice Hypatia'

Hypatia says 'Good morning Accepted'

Penzei says 'how are you today'

Hypatia says 'I am well. I must say, it is pleasant to see the Tower busier today, than I have seen of late.'

Hypatia says 'and how are you Accepted?'

Hypatia says 'though is it true that there have been Trollocs and Fades bothering the gate guards this morning?'

Penzei says 'It is'

The River Lady has arrived at the docks.

Hypatia says 'it is best then that I stay close within the walls this morning...'

Hypatia says 'If I may ask Accepted, I was listening to Romanda Sedai in my classes the other day and she was talking of the Yellow Ajah's supporting role in battle...'

A smartly dressed man has arrived from the west.

Penzei says 'Of course, did you have any specific questions or ?'

A smartly dressed man leaves east.

Hypatia says 'I understand you are apprenticed to the Yellow, so I was hoping you might have looked into what support weaves are considered more useful and helpful for those in battle?'

The fountain splashes merrily, light sparkling beautifully on the surface of the water.

Penzei pulls out a leather binder from seemingly nowhere from inside her dress.

Penzei starts thumbing through pages.


Penzei says 'Let me ask you a question, are you aware of the ailments often associated with Shadowspawn ?'

Hypatia says 'I am aware of affects such as fear and poison, that the Myrrdraal tend to inflict on others'

Hypatia thinks really hard.

Penzei says 'Good good, anything else ?'

Hypatia says 'and we have been learning of the cure fear, blindness and cure poison weaves, and even cure contagion... in theory.'

Penzei says 'Well, the real answer is, they all can come in handy in the right situation'

Penzei says 'You'll find the ones you will need the most however are cure poison, cure fear, and cure blindness'

Hypatia says 'I have been learning healing weaves as well, and am becoming quite proficicient in curing light wounds, yet was starting to develop some skill in curing serious wounds. '

Penzei says 'On the odd chance someone grabs a hold of a Myrrdraal's tunic, it may inflict them with a contagion'

Penzei says 'usually after they expire of course'

A warhorse cocks its head up sharply.

Hypatia says 'indeed? I had been becoming confused, as to where to focus my training... certainly I have not shown much proficiency in curing contagion, yet I had wondered whether I should be working to overcome that block.'

Hypatia frowns slightly, counting silently on her fingers.

Penzei says 'I will admit that they opportunity is rare to cure a contagion, however you should most likely spend your efforts on curing blindess'

Penzei says 'which can get you killed in the wrong situation'

Penzei says 'Are you aware of the fireworks the Illuminator's create?'

Hypatia says 'I am aware that the great flash can cause temporary blindness if one gets too close when they explode.'

Hypatia says 'what of the Dreadlords and Male Channelers. They seem to be becoming more numerous these days, as if the Dark One is stirring.'

The River Lady has arrived at the docks.

Penzei says 'Correct, the shadow spawn have been known to get their hands on large bundles of these fireworks and then use them to separate and disorient patrol groups. Especially ones with members of the White Tower and Aes Sedai.'

Hypatia says 'just as we learn to blind in battle, I take it they will use much the same tactics?'

Penzei says 'Less often is it a dreadlord or male channeler that will use blind offensively'

Penzei says 'More often will they use weaves like earthquake, shaking apart entire patrols.'

Hypatia ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Penzei says 'They rarely waste their time with blind weaves'

An old woman has arrived from the west.

Hypatia says 'I cannot think of any effective weaves against an earthquake, once it is in motion...'

Penzei says 'earthquake beats earthquake'

Penzei giggles.

Penzei says 'but hard to use for us because of the collateral damage involved'

Hypatia says 'I have not yet understood how the earthquake weave could be safely used with allies and horses all around?'

Penzei says 'It can't essentially'

An old woman leaves west.

Penzei says 'unless your using it much like the Dreadlords do, when no one is around or to get people to leave the safety of numbers'

Hypatia says 'is it much the same as with other weaves in battle - that the best counter to earthquake is to be faster and interrupt the channellers' focus? such as with Hailstorm.'

Hypatia shivers uncomfortably.

A Tower Guard has arrived from the west.

Penzei says 'sometimes you can break the timing with a well placed hailstorm or flamestrike'

Penzei says 'but you have to get incredibly lucky, and the dreadlord has to make a mistake'

Penzei says 'Often times better to just leave the room momentarily and then once they've stopped attack'

A shaggy brown mare pricks its ears forward and looks alert.

Hypatia says 'Is the earthquake weave time close to Hailstorm?'



Penzei says 'hailstorm/flamestrike are 9 pulses I believe, while earthquake is 8'

Hypatia says 'oh! here I thought earthquake should be more like ice spikes.'

Hypatia says 'so back to the weaves we say affect a person's physical state, such as contagion and poison - I noted that Romanda Sedai can channel both poison and contagion, but thought that may be a training cantrip, to help us learn to cure those afflictions.'

Hypatia says 'yet it did occur to me that these might be used in battle against Shadowspawn. Do the Yellow, and other Aes Sedai, make use of these weaves. '

The warder has arrived from the south.

Penzei says 'From my position and experience, the weaves themselves are powerful, but you often have to trade a moment of direct damage for an affect that will hamstring your opponent over time. I find it rare when I could have used of of those weaves versus just damaging a shadowspawn.'

Penzei says 'and unfortunately more often then not, the shadowspawn will simply run away should they become affected by such ailments'

A hooded woman has arrived from the south.

Hypatia nods thoughtfully.

Penzei flips through a few more pages of her binder, ensuring the accuracy of her statement.

Penzei says 'Not saying that, they don't have a place'


Penzei says 'Often times I wonder if it might be worth it to freeze a trolloc in place while we kill his mates'

Hypatia says 'I'm not sure I wouldnt find poisoning someone rather distasteful, ethically speaking, even if that were a shadowspawn.'

Penzei says 'and even the best trolloc sneak would have a hard time fighting while afflicted with a contagion'

Hypatia replies to Penzei 'then I am going to have some fun one day with freeze'

Penzei tells Hypatia 'I have SERIOUSLY contemplated it'

Penzei tells Hypatia 'I may still do it after I shawl'

Hypatia says 'what of the more beneficial weaves, that would assist ourselves and those going into battle, such as strength and armor.'

Penzei says 'Armor is almost a requirement, the shadowspawn will attempt to bash you at their earliest convenience '

Hypatia says 'I have learned these, and also Warding Versus Damage, but I am always disappointed with how short a period I can tie a Warding Versus Damage weave for.'

Penzei says 'Strength is useful, for both other channelers or those whom are not the strongest'


Penzei says 'Warding versus Damage when used properly will save your life everytime'

Penzei says 'The trade-off is the short duration'

Penzei says 'but in a pinch you can hold onto the weave'

Hypatia says 'that and it uses a lot of energy, especially to hold on to.'

Penzei nods in agreement.

Hypatia says 'is it something that a Yellow in support ight channel and hold for soldiers going into the field, while remaining safe behind our own defences...'

Hypatia says 'or do you find that you are more often using it in tight situations, when behind enemy lines?'

Penzei says 'With the changes to the Leylines we can no longer project warding versus damage onto others'

Hypatia says 'oh damn, oops'

Hypatia says 'so rather a waste of weaves at present as a novice...'

Penzei says 'not exactly, I used it today'

Penzei says 'saved my life'

Penzei says 'when the shadow spawn attacked Tar Valon'

Hypatia nods in agreement.

Aja tells Hypatia 'How are you doing?'

Penzei says 'While we essentially walk around in nothing but mere cloth, that damage reduction has a large affect'

Hypatia says 'do you weave it going into every battle, or wait until getting lower, to save the SPS for damaging weaves at first?'

Penzei says 'Generally, if I'm out numbered and unable to avoid direct conflict I use it'

Hypatia replies to Aja 'very well. just RPing some questions about combat weaves theory'

Penzei says 'Also if I know I'm going to be fighting in a place that doesn't allow me to weave'

Penzei says 'I use it'

Hypatia shivers uncomfortably.

Aja tells Hypatia 'Very nice. Didn't mean to trouble you.'

Penzei says 'sometimes that is the difference between winning and losing'

Penzei says 'being able to attack the enemy when their chips are down and they think that they are save at a place where channelers can't use their abilities'

Hypatia says 'I have heard of these Steadding... They sound... uncomfortable'

Penzei says 'The worst one is Thakandar...'

Penzei says 'The structure that is Thakandar will literally zap you with lightning should you channel there'

Aja dips into a deep curtsey as she enters the Square.

Hypatia says 'somehow I feel like I would use it all the time, it would be nice to feel safer...'

Penzei says 'I used it when I know its going to be a slugfest for sure'

Hypatia says 'but I am concerned that I will simply exhaust myself in wrapping myself up in padding, without ever being a help in the fight against the Shadow.'

Hypatia smiles at her.

Hypatia says 'Good morning pillow friend!'

Penzei says 'Everything has a trade off'

Hypatia nods in agreement.

Penzei says 'and hindsight is perfect'

Aja giggles, "I forgot to put my hair in a ponytail. It is a mess from my pillow because I tossed and turned all night."

Penzei blinks her eyes innocently.

Penzei says 'Did you just refer to another novice as 'pillow friend''

Hypatia says 'ooc I did and I'm cracking myself up.'

Aja says 'I think another novice or accepted pranked me and put a pea under my mattress. I can't sleep like that.'

Penzei says 'Light have mercy, Don't let an Aes Sedai hear you speak like that they may de-merit you on the spot'

Hypatia says 'it was a small pea... and it was a little test... '

Hypatia says 'to see if you really are as soft as those servants seem to have made you'

Penzei lightly rolls her eyes to the side at the comment.

A Tower Guard leaves east.

Penzei says 'Oh, ladies, remember what goes around comes around'

Aja says 'I will have you that I sparred Sarinda Sedai today and I am happy with myself. I intend on getting better at ALL Tower things.'

Penzei smiles faintly.

Hypatia says 'I know you will! You are ever so determined... It is just funny sometimes that you want someone else to brush your hair and make your bed'
Hypatia giggles.

Aja says 'I thought I was doing good until she cut me from the source and I couldn't weave and didn't know why I couldn't until after.'

Penzei says 'Who cut you from the source ?'

Hypatia says 'she shielded you in combat? I understand only an experienced Red Sister can do that...'

Hypatia says 'Sarinda Sedai is a Sitter after all.'

Aja says 'Even you know the term she used and I couldn't remember it. Am I really that bad with my memory?'

Penzei says 'Its alot to remember dear, take notes'

Penzei grins slightly at the mention.

Aja says 'My servants were always making sure I knew what I needed to do.'
Hypatia says 'it seems it would be a wonderful weave to learn... but it takes a complete dedication to the Red Ajah, before they will teach the secret.'

Hypatia says 'I have been asking lots about the shield weave. It is terrifying!, but it is something that the Red Ajah will only speak of in theory, or use in sparring. and I do not think I could see enough to be able to try to copy it.'

Penzei says 'Shielding takes considerable effort'

Penzei says 'Sometimes even the Red Ajah do not use it'

Penzei says 'It also seems to be a trade off between that and a offensive weave'

Hypatia says 'something to use to protect friends from a dangerous dreadlord, and only when you have friends to finish him off.'

Penzei says 'Essentially, and the Red Ajah often travel alone'

Hypatia says 'somehow I am just as intrigued by the idea of using this Freeze weave you speak of.'

Penzei says 'I am seriously contemplating it'

Aja says 'You know what, Hypatia?! I was sitting here in Tar Valon yesterday and suddenly within moments the weather changed.'

Hypatia says 'like contagion and poison on normal shadowspawn, I guess that a Dreadlord would flee once shielded.'

Penzei says 'they would have too, they would be unable to defend themselves without breaking the shield'

Hypatia says 'Some Aes Sedai are particularly competent at changing the weather.'

Penzei says 'I often change the weather, calling lightning to your aide is a great force multiplier'

Hypatia says 'I understand that it would be helpful to turn it colder, if one was wanting to use ice spikes in battle, but it also takes a lot of energy and effort.'

Hypatia says 'do you not become exhausted changing the weather, to then be able to call lightening?'

Penzei says 'depends on the weather conditions you start with'

A Tower Guard has arrived from the south.

Penzei says 'the greater the change the less you'd be able to do it'

Hypatia nods in agreement.

A Tower Guard leaves south.

Penzei says 'But in the North, you are often able to make it storm with little effort'

Hypatia says 'it is ever a trade-off'

Hypatia says 'I have been told the weather in the north is... fickle...'

Penzei says 'Often it is also a naturally occuring storm in the north'

Hypatia says 'and hot.'

Hypatia says 'can you have hot and stormy weather?'

Aja says 'You two are talking over my head, but I have been studying.'

Penzei nods in agreement.

Penzei says 'thats the best weather for lightning'

Penzei says 'cold doesn't work so much, anything under 45 degrees is hard to make lightning'

Hypatia says 'yes - and sort of - some people will leave a zone when they see the weather is ideal for call lightening, but then, there are different PKers'

say OOC I actually have to get my kids ready for dancing practice. Will be back on in around an hour...
