Please say "receive" at a silver-haired Aes Sedai for your rewards.

I am unable to award Ivran, and not sure how to rectify that.

Humility, Service, Gratitude, and Lightning!

After giving a tour of Tar'Valon to a new hopeful, Amelisa and Ivran are given a lesson in some of the tenants of life for those that serve both the Tower and Tar'Valon.

View of: Chloro
Participants: Amilesa, Ivran
Cameo: Annoura

Log session starting at 21:47:40 on Wednesday, 4 January 2023.

Meeting Room of the Gray Ajah
Large, leaded glass windows surround the room on all sides, save the
southern where a large doorway leads out into a antechamber. The room
itself is dominated by a large wooden table around which sits at least
fifty matching chairs, something close to a record for the White Tower. In
the middle of the table are an assortment of unused parchments, quill pens
and stoppered ink jars. A small stand off to one side of the room holds a
large number of glass cups and a large pitcher of chilled water. An
inscription in fine lettering is etched upon the windows.
[ obvious exits: E ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door east: door
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [4]
A large round table built from black oak dominates the center of the room.
Ivran of Shienar is standing here.
Amilesa the Wearied Novice is standing here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Gray Sister walks here, considering her options.
Annoura Larisen is here, weighing your words.

Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.

Chloro calls for the carveddoor to be opened.

The carveddoor is opened from the other side.

Amilesa has arrived from the east.
Ivran has arrived from the east.

Amilesa curtseys before you.

Amilesa curtseys before Annoura Larisen.

Amilesa closes the carveddoor.

Ivran bows before you.

Chloro nods in agreement.

Chloro says 'Ah young master Ivran, how was your tour?'

Amilesa moves about the room with a tray from the kitchens.

Ivran says 'It was excellent, thank you. Novice Amilesa is a wonderful guide.'

A cup of tea wobbles slightly on the tray ( Amilesa )

Chloro says 'I am glad to hear of it'

Chloro looks around the table.

Amilesa lets out a small sigh of relief.

Chloro says 'Annoura I believe we need more chairs.'

Annoura Larisen glances around the room.

Annoura Larisen says 'Yes, it does appear we are short a few for this meeting.'

Amilesa says 'I was afraid it was going a little long, I showed him quite a few places.'

Annoura Larisen steps out, then returns with an Accepted following close behind.

Annoura Larisen looks over her shoulder at the girl.

Annoura Larisen says 'Child, help us move some of these chairs around the table.'

A dutiful Accepted curtseys gracefully. 'Yes, Aes Sedai.'

A dutiful Accepted grabs a chair and quickly moves across the room.
A dutiful Accepted drops a stout oaken chair.

A dutiful Accepted makes her way towards another and shuffles it into place.
A dutiful Accepted drops a stout oaken chair.

A dutiful Accepted avoids making eye contact as she lifts another chair.
A dutiful Accepted drops a stout oaken chair.

A dutiful Accepted gets a last chair and sets it with the others around a large table.
A dutiful Accepted drops a stout oaken chair.
Amilesa assists Annours Sedai with the chairs.

A dutiful Accepted dips into a final curtsy and leaves with haste.

Chloro nods in agreement.

Annoura points a place to put the new chair ( Amilesa )

Chloro motions to the table, "Please do have a seat both of you." Gracefully she glides to her high-backed chair at the western end of the table.

Ivran says 'By your leave, Aes Sedai, the Watch is not yet done.'

Ivran stands at parade-rest, with one hand on the hilt of his sword.

Amilesa says 'Ivran, do you mind if I clean up my record of the Tour and make it public? Others new to the city might find the sights useful, too.'

Chloro says 'I do like you spirit Irvan, Please Escort our guest out and return Amilesa.'

Ivran says 'Not at all. It was instructive to me, and I am glad if it would be for others.'

Annoura Larisen says 'You are not Gray Ajah.'

Amilesa halts herself midway to sitting.

Chloro says 'Your powers of observation astound me Annoura.'

Amilesa says 'Of course Aes Sedai.'

Amilesa says 'Did you wish me to take you to the Inn, Ivran, or did you just wish not to sit?'

Chloro says 'You should see to join Lord Draz in his quest against the mighty foes.'

Ivran says 'I remained standing so as to be on guard'

Ivran says 'The Watch against the Dark ends only when one's life does.'

Amilesa says 'Your constant diligence is an inspiration.'

Chloro says 'Ah, well then if you wish to stand by all means. I would avoid being too close to the door.'

Chloro gestures at the doors with her hand.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Ivran steps away from the door.

Amilesa curtsies to Ivran in admiration while dutifully taking her seat in front of the Aes Sedai.

Chloro says 'Tell me young man, how do you find the Shining Walls?'

Amilesa starts handing out the cups of tea to those around the desk.

Amilesa opens a large round table.

Amilesa puts a cup of strong black tea in a large round table.

Amilesa puts a cup of blueberry tea in a large round table.

Chloro looks Irvan over weighing and measuring him with her cool gray eyes.

Ivran says 'The Tower is a sight to behold. I've never seen the like before, and I find I never tire of looking at it. Earlier, Kendall Gaidin took me to his private quarters, and the view from his balcony was breathtaking. While I love Shienar, this city is far more beautiful to behold.'

Amilesa places a piece of cake over by Chloro Sedai, emptying the tray.

Chloro looks about the room remembering her first time in the Halls. "You are not the first from the borderlands to say this, and perhaps not the last. I to was quite taken with it on my first journey south."

Amilesa glanced out the multi-colored windows at the sights below.

Amilesa returns her attention to the conversation, politely taking a sip of her blueberry tea.

Ivran says 'If I left now, and never came back from the Border again, the sights would remain with me all my days.'

Chloro smiles warmly, "I find that once you have experienced Tar'Valon. Short of a sea folk vessel or a Hold in the waste most other cities lack their luster."

Ivran smiles happily.

Chloro says 'We are grateful to have you here, and how was the guide for this tour? Any improvements that can be noted?'

Chloro winks at Amilesa.

Ivran says 'I feel there is much I could learn here, too. From the libraries, and from the Guards and Warders.'

Amilesa fidgets in her seat while pretending not be paying avid attention to the response.

Ivran says 'Novice Amilesa did an excellent job. She showed me many points of interest and explained things I did not previously know about the city, and the tower. And we even got some hunting in.'

Ivran smiles happily.

Chloro says 'That is good, perhaps I can offer a lesson to you both. I will begin with a lightning question round.'

Chloro turns to Amilesa, "Who is the current Amyrlin seat?"

Amilesa scoots her seat closer to Ivran, building a team atmosphere.

Amilesa says 'The current Amyrlin is Siuan Sanche, Raised of the Blue AJah.'

Ivran nods in agreement.

Ivran says 'And her Keeper is Liane Sharif, also raised from the Blue Ajah, as I recall.'

Amilesa says 'Oooh, ooh, Sheriam Sedai, Mistress of the Novices which I showed you, is also of the Blue Ajah!'

Amilesa notices her out-burst and lowers her voice.

Chloro nods accepting the answer before facing Ivran. "Who currently Guards the practice yard with his band of younglings?"

Amilesa bounces slightly, knowing Ivran knows this.

Ivran says 'Coulin Gaidin.'

Chloro nods smiles approvingly. "Amelisa, from where does the Amyrlin hail?"

Amilesa chews on her lower lip.

Amilesa says 'She comes from the shores of Tear, I believe.'

Chloro says 'Correct, now, double lighting.'

Amilesa looks out the stained-glass window to check the weather.

Chloro squares off with Irvan, "Before Coulin Gaidin became what he is today, what was he?"

Ivran says 'I do not know, Chloro Sedai. I know of the man, and his ability, but I do not know his personal history.'

Ivran says 'Unless you refer to his role as the Master of Arms? But I thought he still was.'

Chloro nods and moves on to Amilesa, "Before Siuan Sanche joined the White tower, what was she?"

Amilesa says 'She grew up in a fishing village, so at one point in her life she was a woman who lived in a fisherman's village.'

Chloro says 'Before Coulin Gaidin joined us, he was a young man with a dream. Both hold high positions in the world and the Tower. Can either of you name 3 reasons why?'

Amilesa furrows her brow in thought.

Amilesa says 'They are experienced and skilled in their craft as individuals and found a place where they can utilize their skills.'

Ivran says 'They had dreams, they worked hard to achieve them, and they were disciplined.'

Chloro says 'Close but not quite.'

Amilesa says 'Circumstance meant that others were not around that were more qualified or situated for their position.'

Chloro motions to her sisters about the room. "Humility, Service, Gratitude. Each of them live their daily lives by it. Those three things alone can move mountains."

Ivran nods, smiling slightly.

Amilesa sits silently reflecting the three words.

Chloro says 'Becoming Gaidin, being raised to the shawl, those are acts of burden upon a person. You are called to them; you do not seek them. To be in such a role is to ease the workload and burden of your fellow clan mates. '

Ivran nods in agreement.

Amilesa nods at the wisdom in the words.

Ivran says 'The desire to serve is why I wish I eventually join them. Proving through diligent effort that I belong there is another reason.'

Amilesa says 'So having ability is a qualifier, but the purpose is what makes the person.'

Chloro says 'Often people come here seeking power, and it does not fare well for them. Remember this as you each pursue your goals in life.'

Ivran nods in agreement.

Chloro says 'Now, the hour is getting late, Amilesa would you please escort our guest out and return. '

Chloro gestures with her hand.

Ivran says 'I have no wish for power, only a desire to serve, and in a way that will help protect people from the Shadow. But your words are well-heard, Chloro Sedai, and I will keep them in mind.'

The door smoothly swings open.

Ivran bows before you.

Chloro says 'I look forward to hearing of your progress Irvan.'

Amilesa says 'Of course, Aes Sedai.'

Ivran smiles happily.

Chloro says 'off you go.'

Amilesa says 'For my own part, my thoughts have been so wrapped up in learning this new life and this new ability, I haven't thought about what I will do with it. I thought that was normal as a Novice, but I see I have more to think on.'

Amilesa curtseys before you.

Amilesa leaves east. >>
Ivran leaves east. >>

The carveddoor closes quietly.

Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.

The carveddoor is opened from the other side.

Amilesa has arrived from the east.

Amilesa closes the carveddoor.

Amilesa curtseys before you.

Chloro waves the novice back to her seat.

Amilesa returns to her seat, still warm from earlier.

Chloro says 'Now, can you guess as to why we played that lightning round?'

Amilesa slowly nods before speaking.

Chloro looks the novice over gauging her body language and breathing.

Amilesa says 'You used it to guide me into thinking of the qualities that a person in a position that I aspire to be must possess.'

Chloro says 'Indeed, I am aware of your lesson with Morella Sedai, and indeed I concur that your previous motivations will not serve you well.'

Amilesa says 'It isn't that I don't know, think of, or embody the servitude. I just sometimes get caught up literally answering a question, missing the nuance.'

Amilesa looks towards the door, not recognizing the voice.

Chloro says 'Now continuing, no woman reaches the shawl without us thinking her already among us. We serve each other as much as the world. Aes Sedai live far longer than others. Should one of my sisters be in need it is upon me know this as best I can and aid them however, I may be able to. '

Amilesa nods along.

Amilesa says 'I do try to be of service to those who come to the island.'

Amilesa says 'Each day I am awake I get some mare tokens from Sheriam Sedai to ensure people can move about the city.'

Chloro says 'Power comes to those who are willed to it by the wheel. You cannot know if you are until it chooses you. For now, focus on being a good novice and serving as you can. I can assure that if you should pass the arches your journey will only become harder.'

Amilesa says 'After being instructed by you once to put plates of food in the barrel in the Square, I ensure each day that some are there and in the rack in Coulin.'

Chloro says 'Do you know why we put food out?'

Chloro looks to the novice intently.

Amilesa says 'To make it easier for those who come to Tar Valon. Both to build gratitude and to ensure they are strong enough to upload the vlaues of the Light.'

Chloro says 'Think deeper dear.'

Amilesa further furrows her brow in thought.

Amilesa says 'I am sorry, I am having a hard time getting past that the idea is to ensure that people are better supplied and able to fight for the light.'

Amilesa lowers her head in the chair.

Chloro says 'We do it, because we have the food to spare, and also because not every Aes Sedai comes from a noble house. Three daughters of beggars have sat the Amyrlin seat. We do it to ease what burden we can on the city. You never know, you could be feeding the mother or father of the next girl who can channel that puts on whites.'

Amilesa says 'Of course, Aes Sedai. That makes so much sense.'

Chloro says 'Perhaps you should start thinking more from the perspective of having very little and how much the small things in life can bring great meaning.'

Amilesa's shoulders slump further in the chair, her Novice Dress crumbling to the floor.

Amilesa says 'Yes, Aes Sedai.'

Chloro says 'We will speak on this again soon. Remember Gratitude and service. Think not what others can do for you, but what you can do for others with what little you have.'

Amilesa says 'May I mention something, Aes Sedai?'

Chloro says 'You may'

Amilesa straightens the back in her chair to the correct posture.

Amilesa says 'It is true, I am still learning about the Tower and what to do here. But I feel like I AM helpful, and that I do embody elements of service. I just don't know why I cannot articulate it.'

Amilesa says 'But talking about it makes it seem like I am bragging, rather than explaining.'

Chloro nods thinking over the statement. "How do you serve yourself? Do you have any small things you do during the day that brings a bounce to your step?"

Amilesa says 'That is exactly what I am talking about. I will give an example from today.'

Amilesa says 'I spent some time diligently Locating for indications of Shadowspawn in the world, to let people know to be wary, or if they should be on the lookout up north.'

Amilesa says 'I didn't do this before, similar to putting the plates in the barrel, until Sarinda Sedai gave me a lesson on its usefulness to others.'

Chloro says 'A good practice, one Kathala Sedai does often.'

Amilesa says 'Additionally, I get some horse tokens from Sheriam Sedai each morning I am awake and ensure there are some mares in the city for others to use. '

Amilesa says 'There aren't many horses naturally around this big city, and equine prices are more expensive than elsewhere.'

Chloro says 'I think it best before you speak on these subjects then to stop, take a breath, then proceed. It could be you are attempting to rush in conversations. Either way our time is over for today.'

Amilesa says 'Of course, Aes Sedai. Thank you for your time.'

Amilesa stands up briskly from the chair.

Chloro says 'As a note, I will be watching.'

Chloro gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Amilesa leaves east. >>
