In which Novice Elmitsu entreats Firimei Sedai of the White Ajah and sees her friend Lexiane again.

Elmitsu nearly topples into the White Ajah study in her haste to curtsey.

Elmitsu recovers her composure and balance admirably.

Elmitsu smiles sweetly 'Light illumine you, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu says 'I was looking for Raeza Sedai.'

Elmitsu scuffs her foot winningly on the carpet.

Firimei nods in agreement.

Elmitsu continues 'She has been helping me with my block. I wanted to show her my progress.'

Firimei says 'Well she is not awake at present, tell me what you have doing so far?''

Elmitsu stumbles over the word 'unorthodox' as she says 'Well, Aes Sedai, it is a bit unorthodox.'

Firimei arches an eyebrow.

Elmitsu says 'Myrtle says I am a wilder. I have only been able to channel when holding a boy's hand.'

Firimei says 'Indeed, this appears interesting.'

Elmitsu juts her chin out defiantly 'She says it like it's a dirty word.'

Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.

Firimei smirks slightly.

Elmitsu jumps a bit at the sound at the door.

Firimei gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Lexiane has arrived from the north.

Lexiane curtseys gracefully.

Firimei bellows 'Yes?'

Lexiane bellows 'Hello, Aes Sedai'

Lexiane closes the carveddoor.

Elmitsu looks over to Lexiane, a large smile blossoming where there was none before.

A young woman in novice whites stands here. Her large, doe eyes a deep
brown. Her head is shaved bald, and shines when the light hits it.

Lexiane is in excellent condition.
Lexiane is healthy.

Firimei nods towards Lexiane.

Elmitsu gulps air like a fish 'I like your haircut, Lexiane.'

Firimei arches an eyebrow.

Lexiane sends a secret smile towards Elmitsu before quickly adopting an attept at Aes Sedai calmness.

Lexiane says 'Hello, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'I had not seen you in the Tower before so I had hoped to introduce myself, Aes Sedai.'

Firimei arches a brow. 'When you girls have stopped preening, will someone tell me why I had to observe that display?'

Lexiane gives another curtsy for good measure. She is clearly practiced at it.

Lexiane says 'I apologize, Aes Sedai. Elmitsu and I study together often.'

Elmitsu blanches a little. She tries to curtsey again 'Lexiane also has helped me with my block, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'We had not seen each other lately, though. Only the excitement of seeing a friend again, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'I apologize if it was inappropriate, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane nods eagerly, her bald head reflecting the lamplight.

Elmitsu continues 'She has been a good teacher, Aes Sedai. We still have a lot to learn though.'

Elmitsu smiles so sweetly that everyone present might get a cavity.

Lexiane says 'Yes Aes Sedai. Raeza Sedai set me to help Elmitsu with the rosebud technique.'

Firimei holds up a finger.

Lexiane shuts her mouth with an audible 'click'.

Elmitsu stops mid-sentence, frozen by Firimei's finger.

Firimei says 'Please no more, it is quite alright for a fellow Novice to help and as it is with Accepted. Just keep the outbursts for the Novice quarters.''

Firimei looks sternly at you both.

Lexiane curtsies again, deeper this time.

Lexiane says 'Yes, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu seems to absorb both Firimei's words and look in equal measure. To her credit, she only wilts a little.

Lexiane does her best to look more mature and in control.

Firimei nods in agreement.

Firimei says 'Now then, tell me, about this block.'

Elmitsu nods, jutting out her chin 'I came to the Tower able to channel, but only . . .'

Lexiane settles in to listen to Elmitsu explain her block. She is clearly putting a lot of effort in to not jumping in.

Elmitsu finishes quickly 'If I hold a boy's hand.'

Firimei arches a brow.

Elmitsu 's words come out in a rush, though she very occasionally remembers to breathe 'Raeza Sedai set Lexiane to helping me with the rosebud. That almost worked. Then Everesta Sedai had a really good idea.'

Firimei whispers to Carlinya and smirks slightly.

Elmitsu smiles sweetly 'May I show you?'

Firimei says 'Carry on.'

Firimei nods in agreement.

Elmitsu cautions 'It is a little loud though.'

Lexiane nods at Elmitsu's words, her face alternating between a facsimile of Aes Sedai calm and obvious excitement at her friends progress.

Firimei says 'I am sure the walls can take it child.'

Elmitsu bellows 'I am picturing Rolfe.'

Elmitsu bellows 'He is tall with curly brown hair and beautiful, brown eyes.'

Elmitsu bellows 'He has at least 40 eyelashes. I can count them all.'

Elmitsu bellows 'He moves with the deadly grace of a predator, almost like a Warder!'

Firimei frowns slightly and nods.

Elmitsu bellows 'He has a mole on his mouth that looks like Alfred!'

Elmitsu scrunches her eye shut as she continues to yell.

Lexiane can't help it, she blushes a deep red at Elmitsu's yelling.

Elmitsu bellows 'He has a tapered waist and big arms! The arms are worth mentioning twice because they are so big!'

Elmitsu feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Firimei tilts her head.

Lexiane gasps in astonishment.

Elmitsu is surrounded by the nimbus of Saidar.

Elmitsu creates a sphere of light above her hand.

Lexiane claps a hand to her mouth in shock.

Elmitsu splits that sphere into three of equal shape. She smiles as they begin cycling in the air above her palm.

Lexiane looks at Elmitsu excitedly.

Elmitsu gulps air like a fish as she releases the source.

Lexiane says 'Aes Sedai, this was impossible just a week ago!'

Firimei looks at Elmitsu and nods ' That does seem to work, but remember you will not always have that luxury of imgaination.'

Firimei nods at Lexiane.

Lexiane nods gravely at Firimei's words.

Elmitsu says 'A week ago, I would not have been to speak to you without crying, Aes Sedai.'

Firimei says 'An interesting concept, if it aids.'

Elmitsu smiles ruefully, earnestly.

Lexiane says 'When the villain Boboliosie tried to kill me, I had to embrace and weave in an instant.'

Elmitsu trips over her words again 'She chased him out of the Tower, Aes Sedai!'

Firimei says 'Saidar will come to you in times of crisis and need.'

Lexiane says 'It is as Firimei Sedai says, Elmitsu. You must be able to embrace and weave as easily as breathing.'

Lexiane bows her head modestly.

Elmitsu looks down to her feet, and her cheeks are flushed with embarrassment.

Elmitsu senses Firimei connecting to the True Source.

Elmitsu senses Firimei is channeling saidar.

Firimei fails to pull together whatever flows she was trying to weave.

The room becomes brighter as Firimei creates a ball of light above her hand.

Firimei chuckles politely.

Lexiane smiles happily.

Firimei says 'As you can see sometimes it eludes us all.'

Lexiane says 'I am sure it is just because you are tired from your travels, Aes Sedai.'

Firimei says 'So this man is he a sweetheart love left behind?'

Firimei shrugs slightly.

Elmitsu 's lower lip begins to wobble, but she tames it as another might a lion.

Elmitsu says 'Rolfe is a student in the yard, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu says 'Alfred is dead.'

Firimei nods in agreement.

Elmitsu studies her feet as if she were preparing for a test.

Firimei says 'I see, there are two men or one who looks like a mole?'

Lexiane coughs loudly.
Firimei arches her brow.

Lexiane turns to study Elmitsu.

Elmitsu suppresses a giggle as she explains 'They both have a mole near their mouth, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu says 'Well, Alfred had.'

Elmitsu repeats 'He is dead.'

Firimei glances towards Carlinya and sighs slightly.

Firimei says 'How did he pass?'

Elmitsu 's neck is now red and blotchy.

Elmitsu says 'A fire, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu says 'We were in the hayloft.'

Elmitsu says 'I was just showing him the hayloft. That's all, Aes Sedai.'


Lexiane coughs loudly.

Elmitsu looks to Lexiane in her periphery. She fidgets on her feet.

Lexiane says 'Trollocs attacked her farm, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu says 'I tried to stop them.'

Lexiane says 'Elmitsu, and please correct me if I am wrong, reacted.'

Lexiane nods in agreement.

Lexiane says 'Unfortunately she lacked any control, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'And there was a fire.'

Firimei nods in agreement.

Elmitsu says 'I am sorry I cannot control my emotions better, but I am trying.'

Lexiane says 'She used to cry all the time, Aes Sedai. Elmitsu has been working very hard.'

Lexiane looks proudly at Elmitsu.

Firimei says 'Unfortunate but a common occurrence it seems in initiates history, the Dark ones touch is everywhere sometimes and no where.''

Elmitsu says 'That is why I like talking to Sisters of the White Ajah. They--you--seem to understand how to control them.'

Firimei says 'Emotions are not devoid from humans, merely they can be controlled. To not be emotive would not be human.'

Lexiane nods in agreement.

Lexiane says 'I quite like how the White Ajah think about things, Aes Sedai. I have spent a lot of time lately thinking about the nature of rules.'

Elmitsu smiles softly, and she blinks back whatever was troubling her.

Lexiane says 'I was being told I often broke rules, but they were rules I could not have known
about.'

Lexiane says 'Still other rules didn't matter to some people.'

Firimei turns to each letting her gaze linger.

Lexiane says 'It seems like rules, and their importance, can vary quite a bit according to a person's belief, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu nods her agreement, though not too vigorously.

Firimei says 'You should know of the rules from the handbook and anything you are unaware of ask an Aes Sedai or even Accepted.'

Lexiane says 'Do you ever think about the nature of rules or laws, Aes Sedai? The philosophy behind them?'

Lexiane curtseys gracefully.

Lexiane says 'Of course, Aes Sedai. I have memorized the handbook.'

Elmitsu inserts 'When I first got here, Lexiane helped me understand the rules she knew, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'But, for example, drinking alcohol is against the rules for novices according to some Aes Sedai. Others do not mind, Aes Sedai.'

Firimei says 'Although as a Novice you have more leeway and that extend somewhat. The longer you have been here, the more we expect you to understand the rules.'

Lexiane nods in agreement.

Firimei arches an eyebrow.

Elmitsu tattles 'Chloro Sedai gave Tigira wine, Aes Sedai!'

Lexiane says 'What about rules that are not written down anywhere but are instead conveyed through cultural norms or cues? Are those rules the same as rules written down?'

Firimei turns her gaze upon Lexiane 'Well my Sister must have a reason, not all of us will be offering the finest vintage.'

Lexiane brings a hand to her mouth and giggles.

Elmitsu says 'Aes Sedai, do you think I am ready for a little more responsibility?'

Elmitsu says 'I have been studying hard and almost broke my block.'

Firimei turns to Lexiane ' Unwritten rules child?'

Elmitsu looks to her shoes 'I have only been stabbed once, and I survived.'

Lexiane says 'Unwritten rules such as no drinking for novices, Aes Sedai.'
Firimei chuckles politely.

Lexiane says 'Or that it's inappropriate for novices to gawk at the warder students, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu nudges Lexiane 'That was only to work on my block!'

Firimei says 'I see Lexiane, it should be obvious though it clouds judgment when you meant to be learning.'

Lexiane grins at Elmitsu.

Firimei arches an eyebrow.

Lexiane says 'Of course, Aes Sedai.'

Firimei says 'Anyway.'

Elmitsu smiles sweetly.

Lexiane says 'I only find the mercurial nature of rules fascinating. Perhaps I can discuss it with you privately?'

Lexiane looks at Firimei hopefully.

Elmitsu mouths the word 'mercurial' under her breath.

Firimei turns to Elmitsu 'Considering I have only been out of my private meditation today I will consult with my Sisters and recommend that you are progressing.'

Elmitsu nods, though she looks a little crestfallen 'Of course, Aes Sedai.'

Firimei turns to Lexiane ' I shall arrange for a meeting this week, leave me a note on when your roster leaves you free child?'

Lexiane says 'Yes, Aes Sedai, thank you, Aes Sedai!'

Lexiane is beaming at the thought of a private lesson on the philosophy of rules.

Lexiane curtseys gracefully.

Lexiane says 'I am sorry Aes Sedai, may I be excused? I have to finish my work for Sheriam.'

Firimei says 'I think you will overcome this block very soon Elmitsu and I hope you progress nicely.'

Firimei gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Elmitsu still looks as though someone smashed her birthday cake. She falls in line behind Lexiane, dropping a far better curtsey than before.

Lexiane curtseys gracefully.

Lexiane says 'Thank you, Aes Sedai.'

Elmitsu says 'Thank you, Aes Sedai.'

Firimei says 'You may both depart.'

Lexiane departs with an excited glance at her friend.
